Topic: First Time Tutors / First Lesson
A
re you embarking on your first ever tuition assignment and feeling a bit nervous? No worries, let our experienced tutors help you out in avoiding some of the misadventures you may encounter in your first few lessons.
We shall help you focus on enjoying the teaching part by filling up with whatever you need to prepare. Cheers
The Basics
I shall do a simple one to start it off.
What to bring
1. Photocopy of qualifications - Essential for all first lessons matched by Ace Tutors
2. Foolscap - to do all your scribblings on
3. Calculator - if you’re teaching maths or secondary science
4. Dictionary/Thesaurus - if you're teaching English or mother tongues
5. Stationary
Before the lesson
1. Read the Ace Tutors Progress Card manual.
2. Revise on your topics. Make sure you're fresh with your concepts!
3. Call up the parent 1 day prior to lesson to confirm the timing
4. Plan your trip to arrive 5-10mins early. Don't aim to be just on time!
5. Plan your lesson briefly: are you going use your student's textbook to teach? How much homework to give at the end of the lesson? If there a need to buy assessment books?
During lesson
1. Warm up to your student by asking about his school, how he did with the subjects
2. Set the Subject, Academic and Future Goals with your student
3. Enjoy the teaching experience!
That should be all for the moment. All the best!
